Speaking to newsmen from a well informed point of view, Chief Superintendent Koroma, being the Local Unit Commander (LUC) for the Kamakwie Police Division yesterday 21st February said the whole fracas started when some supporters of the SLPP insisted in sticking campaigns posters of their presidential candidates Retired Brigadier Julius Maada Bio on the properties of a Kamalo resident who kicked against the idea.

He said the SLPP supporters first attempted to stick the posters on the resident’s cinema walls, he refused them and they then attempted to stick it on his house wall, an attempt the resident still refused. The LUC said the next moment the SLPP supporters made another attempt to stick the campaign poster on the same resident’s water well wall and took offense after they were refused by the same resident for the third time.

Feeling offended, the LUC furthered, the SLPP supporters started pelting stones on the resident’s house. This move he went on was faced by stiff resistance from the people of Kamalo which later resulted to a bloody commotion that left some people including Abu Kamara, Thomas S. Kamara and one Police Inspector Momoh sustaining injuries.

According to Local Unit Commander Chief Superintendent Francis T. Koroma, he was also informed that security personnel attached to Retired Brigadier Julius Maada Bio fired three gun shots which the police are currently investigating despite no arrest is yet to be made.

For his part, Retired Brigadier Julius Maada Bio denied the allegation of his men firing any gunshots, explaining further that they were on a very peaceful rally when the people of Kamalo start pelting stones on them and attacked their supporters, thereby damaging their vehicles and other properties.

Kamalo is the birthplace of the presidential candidate of the ruling All People’s Party (APC), Dr. Samura Wilson Mathew Kamara.
