Le45M Bail for Alleged Fraudsters

The particulars of the offences indicated that the three accused persons conspired with unknown individuals to defraud the complainant, Hassan Alpha of  seven assorted  cartoons of can soft drinks valued eight hundred and five thousand leones, on  Wednesday 29 March 2018 at Goderich in the far west of Freetown.

The charge sheet further disclosed that the accused persons promised to pay for the said assorted can soft drinks, after delivery by the shop assistant at a nearby school, knowing to be false.

Court records also state that due to the failure of the accused persons to pay for the items in question, and obtained money from the complainant by false pretence, negates Section (32) Sub Section (1) of the larceny act of 1916.

Canvassing the presiding Magistrate for bail on behalf of the accused persons, Lawyer J M Jengo submitted that his Clients have been in police custody for fifteen days, and that the offences preferred against his Clients are bailable offences.

He further submitted that if the court grants bail to the accused persons, they will not jump bail or interfere with prosecution witness or witnesses, stating that his application for bail, is pursuant to Section (79) of the Criminal Procedure Act of the laws of Sierra Leone.

Inspector I.G. Fofanah is prosecuting and Magistrate Santigie Bangura adjourned the matter to today 10 May 2018.
