Speaking in a press conference geared towards informing citizens on plans government has put in place to observe the first civil registration vital statistic day in the country, Massaquio disclosed that Sierra Leone as a signatory to the African Union signed an agreement to commemorate the Africa Civil Registration Vital Statistic Day like other African states.

“Steering Committee is a technical group that will be given guidelines to the operations of CRVS in the country” Massaquio said; adding that the steering committee will also be advising government on CRVS.

CRVS according to Massaquio will benefit the citizenry of Sierra Leone, noting further that it is the mandate and intension of government to have an integrated permanent register for vital statistic and movement of the country that will serve different purposes for development and security reasons.

Mr. Massaquio maintained that the Authority will be using the information for electoral purpose and the printing of voters’ registration ID cards by NEC and Census by Statistic Sierra Leone.

“We are going to make sure that people personal information like backdating is not dynamic to change every year” Massaquio said.

He added that they will have an integrated civil permanent civil register that people will used for driving license, benefits and pensions from NASSIT, voters cards and passports.
