He was approved alongside four other presidential nominees to fill vacant positions. The other approved presidential nominees are, Doreen Z. Faux – proposed Member Public Service Commission, George C. Taylor – proposed Member Board of Directors Bank of Sierra Leone, Ira Nyakeh Amara – proposed Member Board of Directors National Minerals Agency and Sulaiman Kaikai – proposed Member Board of Directors Sierra Leone Commercial Bank. 

Earlier, addressing the nominees and Members of Parliament, the Speaker Honorable Abass Chernor Bundu said they must ensure that they serve the country’s best interest in their respective positions. He cautioned them to always ensure that they work with others on their respective teams for the good of the nation.

 as decision by the USA Government on their policy against Sierra Leone affected people carrying diplomatic passports.

Speaking further to the press, Ambassador Wai said the appointment came as a complete surprise to him as he was not thinking about coming to serve his country but that with the invitation from President Bio he saw it fit to denounce his US citizenship to meet with the conditions involved. 

Responding on what he will do differently in relation to the US policy on repatriating undocumented Sierra Leoneans, he maintained that government policies do not work by remote control. He said: “To change policy, you have to dialogue and if you fail to identify where the problem lies the other side will feel they have been taken advantage of.” 

According to him, he will sit, dialogue and negotiate with the US authorities, citing that before now the relationship between the two states has been cordial.
