This statement raised many eyebrows and ordinary Sierra Leoneans misinterpreted the president’s statement to mean actual war (with weapons) due to what many ordinary people described as an ‘ambiguous remark.’ Other people described President Bio’s statement as uncalled for and a threat to the peace and stability Sierra Leone is enjoying.

However, in order to interpret or clarify what the president actually meant, Yusuf Keketoma Sandi who is State House Press Secretary and Presidential Spokesperson, has spoken with AYV.

He said what the President said in Kono district is crystal clear about his fight against corruption. He recalled that during the inauguration of the President, he pinpointed that his government will eradicate corruption, indiscipline and poverty.

He added that the Commission of Inquiry is one way the president intends to wage war against the above societal ills; as well as to hold accountable individuals that mismanaged state funds.

“The word witch-hunt has no part in the New Direction government, and so if any person has stolen from government, such individual must return such stolen fund (s) back to the Consolidated Revenue Fund (CRF) for the government to utilize such funds on beneficial projects for the good of all Sierra Leoneans.

He cautioned members of the main opposition APC party to adhere to the Commission of Inquiry as it is enshrined in the country’s constitution, he said.

Mr. Sandy was speaking during yesterday, Tuesday 22nd January, 2019 Good Morning Sierra Leone breakfast show on AYV TV.
