It can be recalled that on 16th January 2019, some native rebels who claimed to be supporters of the APC in Makeni beat up five staff of the Africa Young Voices (AYV) Media Empire.

The Empire complained the ugly incident to the Party and also the Sierra Leone Police for further investigations and justice.

Unfortunately, it is now clear to many that the APC party is either not serious to give AYV justice by bringing the rebels to book or it has merely decided to abet them to continue the crude act on peaceful journalists.

For Hon. I.B. Kargbo to stand in the Well of Parliament and tell the world that his party, the All People’s Congress, did not beat up any AYV journalists in Makeni as complained by the media house, even after the incident has been openly confirmed and condemned by the police and the country’s media association (SLAJ), is very much disheartening and unfair to the media world.

Similarly, quite recently, the APC Publicity Secretariat also told the world that the AYV complaint is false; and that none of its journalists were beaten by his party’s supporters in Makeni city.

Thus, many people say has already prejudiced the so called investigations the APC Secretariat has vowed to carry out.

The question as to how can the APC be making a judgment on a matter it is claiming to be investigating has left many people with the belief that the party is not serious about exposing these rebels but abetting them and their native act.

Hon. I.B. Kargbo’s utterances in the Well of Parliament, which seemingly support the ugly act, amazed not only his colleague MPs, but also the honourable Speaker of Parliament who could not bear it, but cautioned the MP to at least do the honorable thing by condemning the act, investigating it and punishing the rebels before referring to the AYV complaint as false.

Many people who spoke to this writer last evening say if Hon. Kargbo who was speaking on behalf of the APC party in the Well of Parliament could openly say the AYV complaint is false, then they prefer the party not to investigate the matter.

According to them, the party already prejudiced the investigations by saying the AYV complaint has been false.
