Speaking to newsmen at a Police press briefing held past Monday, Head of Crime Services at the Criminal Investigations Department, Assistant Inspector General of Police Mohamed Brima Jah updated journalists about a riot between some APC supporters and the Sierra Leone Police on Friday 31st May, 2019 at the APC party’s headquarters at Brookfields in Freetown.

According to him, the riot broke following a High Court ruling that saw 9 APC Members of Parliament losing their seats as MPs to the Sierra Leone People’s Party.

The police officer went on to say Cornelius Deveaux is declared wanted for inciting party members to unleash violence against the Police which he said is against the law of the country.

“Cornelius Deveaux is a wanted person, he organized and incited these people to actually unleash violent behavior on police and now on the run,” the AIG said, adding that some supporters of the APC were throwing missiles like bottles, stones and teargas canisters on police and that these actions left six police officers badly injured and hospitalised.

He further stated that one hundred and seventeen people were arrested at the scene and that these include prominent members in the party like Bai Mamoud Bangura, Lansana Fadika, Hon Mohamed Bangura, Femi Mansaray, Hon. Batch Conteh and Ibrahim Sorie.

He noted that seventy five out of one hundred and seventeen people who were arrested have already being charged to court and profiling in progress while thirty six including the prominence party members were released on self-bail.

However, AIG Brima Jah said those charged will be facing the court for riotous conduct, wounding and other offences.
