Scaling Up Nutrition (SUN) Secretariat in collaboration with all networks have concluded a National Briefing of Stakeholders on National Food Systems Dialogue for the working group to present the concept and roadmap for organizing the national dialogue.
Food and Agricultural Organization a body of multiple stakeholders working together for the overall goals and objectives of food Systems in Sierra Leone, were also part of this august briefing summit held at it conference hall in Freetown on Thursday 6th May, 2021.
Food systems are the sum of actors and interactions along the food value chain—from input supply and production of crops, livestock, fish and other agricultural commodities.
In September 2021, the United Nations Secretary-General will hold a summit in New York aiming to transform global food processing, retailing, wholesaling, and preparation of foods to consumption and disposal.
One of the key objectives of the summit is to raise awareness about the importance of food security as a prerequisite for economic development.
The UN Secretary-General is calling on world leaders to take part in this Summit which will enhance future direction of food systems and accelerate collective actions to that end.
This reflects the increasing recognition that transforming food systems must be central in efforts to achieving all 17 Sustainable Development Goals
(SDGs) by 2030.
In support of the vision of the UN Secretary-General’s Statement about the central role food Systems play, the President of Sierra Leone has nominated the Minister of State, Office of the Vice President as a national Convener that will engage a broad range of stakeholders across government and other sectors that compose food systems in the dialogue program.
