The Director of TVET Project, Mr. Umaru Gbessay Sesay disclosed to this medium that the construction work started in 2015 and expected to end by October this year. “We are expecting contractors to hand over building next month” he assured. The director disclosed that the project is intended to capacitate youths with various skills and mitigate the shortage of manpower. “We want to reduce the in balance of technical vocational facilities in the country” he stated pointing out that “That is why we are constructing technical centers in Malen, Pujehun South, Kambia and Masegbe in the North and Kono in the East”. 

 

 

He informed AYV that the institution in Malen has the capacity to admit 300 students. He disclosed that plans are underway to add other facilities including hostels, recreational facilities and other social venues for sports and hygiene.

 

The Chiefdom Speaker for Sahn-Malen Chiefdom, Shengbeh, Roberts Moiguah said he was impressed with the project saying that it will create lot of improvement in that part of the country. “This is a development and improvement that can help us for several decades” he stated. According to him, the institution will serve the big Palm Oil Agricultural Investment that is located in that chiefdom. He said the both entities will serve each other; one will capacitate and give the manpower while the other will create jobs for graduating students.

 

 He also disclosed that 29 acres was allocated to the ministry for the institution.

 

The Speaker also appealed for additional facilities including hostels for distant students.

  The Ministry was impressed with the construction services but cautioned them to meet the deadline. MIB Construction and General Services and Panther Construction and General Services are the contractors whilst Ideas remains as the consultant.
