Leader of the National Grand Coalition (NGC) Party in Parliament, Hon Dr. Kandeh Kolleh Yumkella has joined the call in Parliament for measures against counterfeit products and effective land reforms to protect property rights.

In addressing the Consumer Protection Commission nominees in the Well of Parliament, Hon. Yumkella encouraged them to consider their responsibility as dealing with life and death.

He also emphasised the critical importance of protecting citizens against counterfeit and adulterated products. He singled out the dangers of fake medications and expired food products which pose a great danger to the health and life of citizens.

He explained the critical architecture needed to establish quality standards and metrology systems to test products entering our local markets. He highlighted his role during the UNIDO days in the establishment of the Standards Bureau and its laboratory at Ferry Junction.

Hon. Yumkella emphasized that Government needs to do more to stop the proliferation of contaminated products to save the lives of citizens.

In the same vein, Hon Yumkella congratulated the Hon Paramount Chief Sonsiama of Sandoh as member of the Land Commission. He highlighted the problems genuine land owners face as people grab their bonafide properties.

He explained other land reform measures that are needed to attract investments into commercial agriculture, and decentralised renewable energy solutions. He ended by saying “as a Paramount Chief, no one can teach him about land issues”.

As a result, he is confident the Hon. Chief will protect the property rights of citizens. Calls for Measures Against Counterfeit Products and Effective Land Reforms to Protect Property Rights
