Giving an overview of the event, Executive Coordinator, Youth Partnership for Peace and Development, Musa Ansumana Soko said that the national launched of the resolution 2250 was to implement the current international trend, which creates room for inclusive youth participation at all developmental levels in the country.

Musa Ansumana Soko added “this is not a UN demanded resolution, it was pushed for by the people, it was over ten thousand people that gathered in Arman Jordan and one of those young people assembled in Jordan happened to be Sierra Leonean and he was the only Sierra Leonean that represented us in that meeting.”

Country Director, United Nations Development Programme, Samuel Doe referred to youth as the custodian of the destiny of every nation and that youth should be the sustainer of Sierra Leone peace, he further pointed that youth are to be empowered in Entrepreneur, technology, and many other skills which could be the tool for youth to participate in development process.

Doe explained that youth are not tools in any way and that the resolution was a true demonstration of the roles youth can play in any nation. He emphasized and stated that future of any nation greatly depended on youth empowerment, owing to the fact that they are both the present and future leader.

National Coordinator Youth Commission, Mohamed Koroma mentioned that youth should be key stakeholder in national development, owing to the fact that youth are very powerful instrument in nation building. As he stated that youth are to step up in various activities regarding development in Sierra Leone.

Mohamed Koroma applauded UNDP for the tremendous support the organization have been rendering over the years, as he encouraged them to continue their usual support, in order for youth to take the lead.

Delivering the key note address, Commissioner, National Youth Commission, Anthony Koroma stated that the resolution seek to remind global authorities of the significance of youth in every developmental process and that youth should see themselves as ambassador for peace building. He further stated that the Security Council urged member’s state to give youth a great voice in policy making at national as well as regional levels.

“Through the unanimous adoption of resolution 2250 members state are urged to promote the participation of youth in decision, conflict and conflict resolution processes and also the prevention of arm conflict, inclusive and enabling environment for youth.” Anthony Koroma mentioned.
