The protesting students were displaying several placards with inscriptions, emphasizing the degree to which their right to education had been trampled upon. According to the aggrieved students, three months of the current academic had already gone, and no one could turn back the hands of time, they hollered.
The students made it cleared that the university’s Academic Staff Association ASA are currently withholding their academic equipments, as a result of the appropriate university authorities alleged to have failed to meet their required demands.
Hassan Timbo, the Attorney General and Director of justice of the National Union of Sierra Leone student, NUSS, submitted that they are concerned as a national body that charged with the responsibility to protect the country’s student welfare. Timbo ascertained that for the past weeks they had been meeting with stakeholders but on the contrary, all our previous meetings proven to be fruitless.
” it’s a clear manifestation of injustice towards their educational right, as a national body of students, NUSS; we are staunchly in support of the students staged action”, Timbo made it clear, as he made a general plea to the appropriate authorities, to immediately facilitate the resumption process of the university.
Malvina Fudia Kamara, one of the aggrieved students said that they went to the Ministry of Education, to register their dismay about the current process confronting them. She further explained that the ministry Public Relations Officer, Brima Michael Turay, respectably addressed and informed them that he was not appropriate authority to handle their concerns.
Kamara said that what driven them to come to AYV media empire, to register their disappointment, through peaceful march. She further explained that they had paid their fees, including all other charges, as a result of this she said they supposed to acquire the suitable services they paid for.
