Council of Imams launches Women Support Group

The United Council of Imams has officially launched its Women Support Group for the Central Region.

The thrust is to galvanise support across the region to aid the infrastructural development of the Council, among other many projects they intend to undertake and to also foster unity.

The Central region starts from Up-gun to Tengbeh Town, comprising nine (9) Sections. The Women Support Group will also seek to have a training center to teach women about Islam and vocational studies.

In his statement, President of the United Council of Imams, Dr. Mohamed Habib Sheriff, paid tributes to past leaders, who are now late for their immense contributions toward the progress of the organization.

He said they decided to have women support groups at various zones within the council because of the important of women the progress of Islam.

“We have decided to establish this wing for a purpose, one of which is to propagate Islam and the ideals of the organization. Women are one of the pillars to help Imams in mosques and Islamic organisations,” he said and urged them to continue their good work.

According to him, women are a symbol of Islamic and national unity and urged the new support group to help strengthened the unit that exists within the council.

Earlier, National Secretary General of the Council, Alhaji Ibrahim Mans Kanu said “if the women transfer the support they are giving to various mosques across the country, the council will succeed in its plan activities.”

He stated that the United Council of Imams is a spiritual organization with a focus on the welfare of Imams across the country, as well as ensuring peace, unity and development among its membership.

“Our vision as a council is to build our infrastructural development. We are currently building our head office in Freetown,” he said.

Regional Chairlady, Madam Fatmata Conteh and Regional Chief Imam, Sheikh Muhammad Fuad Kamara stated that for the newly established group to succeed, it need the unflinching support of each and every member of the council.

They appealed to the government to help the council with land to build their offices, especially in the central region.

The Women Support Group was officially launched by Sheikh Muhammad Fuad Kamara, on behalf of Mohamed Gento Kamara who donated NLe100,000 to the group.

The launching and fundraising was chaired by Mohamed Awalu, Chairman of the Central Region.
