According to the Minister of Information and Communication, Mohamed Bangura stated that the toll road has been the fastest road construction in the country and that it one that would definitely ease traffic from Calaba Town to Waterloo. He further referred to the country’s economy as one of the fastest growing economy before the Ebola pandemic.
“We don’t want people to fast forward the country’s electioneering process, this is not the time of campaigning and not the time for elections rather the people of this country vote for us to work for them and the president and the president has made a commitment to develop and transform Sierra Leone.” Mohamed Bangura added.
He mentioned that their government would continue their developmental strive and that the social contract they had signed with the people of this country has not come to an end, adding that the government would continue to develop and promote the interest of Sierra Leoneans.
Minister Bangura pointed out that they would publicly declare the kilometers of roads which they actually constructed. He reiterated that everyone should come onboard to support the country’s development.
He mentioned the movement of people from one place to another would be improved with the construction of the road. He commented that the argument people are making at the moment would not encourage development.
Deputy Minister of Information, Cornelius Deveaux highlighted the content of the contract between the company and the Sierra Leone government, and that the toll road would be in service for a period of twenty five years, as he stated that the road would be handed to the government of Sierra Leone, after 25 years.
Cornelius Deveaux said “the agreement made no provision for cabinet minister to use the road free but it gives opportunity to members of parliament to use the road on a free of charge basis. The members of parliament that are currently uttering what they are not supposed to are just making cheap political gains they are also part of the beneficiaries.”
He submitted that the road construction has foster employment opportunity for Sierra Leoneans that are currently learning during the construction process and they would also learn how to control the operations of the road.
