Africell CEO launches rebranded 98.1 Studio

Africell Sierra Leone has reaffirmed its commitment to supporting the country’s media landscape with the launch of a newly renovated studio for Radio Democracy.

The unveiling, led by Africell CEO Shadi Gerjewi, took place earlier today in Freetown.

The initiative forms part of Africell’s nationwide media engagement programme and the company’s 20th anniversary celebrations. In addition to Radio Democracy, Africell will rebrand and upgrade eight more studios across the country, strengthening its role as a key partner in media development.

For two decades, Africell has consistently positioned itself as the leading supporter of media growth and innovation in Sierra Leone.

Africell Sierra Leone has been actively supporting radio stations across the country, particularly community radio stations. This support includes providing electricity, financial assistance, and recognition for their role in informing and empowering communities.

Africell has been recognized for its commitment to community radio, including powering over 47 radio stations nationwide with electricity for over 11 years. The Company has been powering over 47 radio stations with round-the-clock electricity for more than 11 years, ensuring they can broadcast consistently.

It has also been recognised for providing financial assistance to radio stations, including community radio stations. Africell has partnered with the government to launch the Rural Farmers Radio Network, bringing agricultural information directly to farmers.

It has received accolades for its support of community radio, including during the 20th anniversary celebration of MODCAR 94.9 FM and Africell’s leadership has participated in radio talk shows, engaging with listeners on topics like connectivity, innovation, and digital finance.

The Company’s support for radio is seen as a way to enhance education, community development, and peacebuilding in Sierra Leone.
