Residents of the New London community in Makeni were met with shock and sorrow on the morning of Sunday, 31st August, 2025, after the lifeless body of a young woman was discovered near a footpath commonly used by locals.
Eyewitnesses say the woman, believed to be in her 20s, wasfound motionless in a quiet corner of the neighbourhood. Although her identity had not been officially confirmed at the time of reporting, several community members recognised her as someone frequently seen visiting the area.
“I usually saw her in this community visiting someone, though I didn’t know who,” said one resident. “We didn’t expect to find her like this.”
Police were quickly alerted and responded to secure the scene and launch an investigation. A small but concerned crowd gathered, expressing deep sadness and fear over the discovery.
Authorities confirmed that the cause of death remains unknown. A post-mortem examination is expected to determine the circumstances surrounding her death.
Rumours have begun circulating in the community, with some residents speculating that the young woman may have been sexually assaulted or possibly killed by a known associate. However, police have urged the public not to jump to conclusions as investigations are still ongoing.
They are calling on anyone with credible information to come forward and assist law enforcement with the investigation.
