Vice President of Sierra Leone, Dr. Mohamed Juldeh Jalloh, has opened the new Kombra Market at Devil Hole, a project sponsored by the Kombra Foundation and supported through collaboration with local stakeholders and CRSG, China Railway Seventh Group, the construction company that has been a significant partner in Sierra Leone’s development for over a decade.

The Vice President said the initiative was a direct response to repeated community requests for a safe and well-constructed space for women traders to sell their goods.

“This community is one that I frequent, and after several requests for support, I collaborated with stakeholders to deliver this market,” he explained, noting that the project also included completing a school building that had been left unfinished by residents.

VP Juldeh Jalloh praised the community’s role in bringing the project to life and encouraged them to take ownership of its success.

“I reminded them that this was their initiative and thanked them for their support,” he said, describing the KombraMarket as an example of what could be achieved when communities and partners worked together to address everyday needs.

“I am extremely proud of the outcome and the expected impact, especially for women,” he added.

The Kombra Foundation is a humanitarian organisation dedicated to uplifting communities, fostering social inclusion, and driving sustainable development across Sierra Leone. Inspired by the Krio word Kombra – symbolising a mother’s unwavering care and commitment to her children — the foundation embodies compassion, service, and empowerment for all.
