The Honourable Minister of Employment, Labour and Social Security Mr. Mohamed Rahman Swaray on behalf of the Chairman of the ECOWAS Authority of Heads of State and Governments Dr. Julius Maada Bio has launched the ECOWAS Social Protection Framework and Operational Plan, marking a transformative step towards inclusive and resilient social protection systems across West Africa.
The Framework, endorsed by ECOWAS Ministers in November 2023, provides Member States with a strategic roadmap to implement national social protection floors, aligned with ECOWAS Vision 2050.
Development partners and representatives of Governments of Member States, including UNICEF, FAO, ILO, World Bank, UN WOMEN, etc. joined the launch to reaffirm their commitment to supporting this regional milestone.
In his address, the Minister congratulated the team from ECOWAS for putting the Framework together and said the Framework would serve as a practical and comprehensive approach to social protection in the subregion. “It will serve as a roadmap for Member States to strengthen social protection floors in their countries.” Minister Swaray stated.
He concluded that the launching of the Framework would signal a shared commitment across the region to help our most vulnerable populations.
