Managing Director of the Sierra Leone Postal Services, SALPOST, Brima Katta is currently attending the 28th Universal Postal Congress in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.

The Congress was organised by the Universal Postal Union(UPU), which is the United Nations body tasked with coordinating and developing global postal services. The event brought together ministers, postal regulators and other policy makers from the Union’s 192 member countries to discuss strategies around the general growth of postal services.

Speaking on the importance of the Congress, Director General of the UPU, Masahiko Metoki noted that: “This Congress is our opportunity to ensure that every link in our network is strong. It is our opportunity to demonstrate that, despite any differences in views or interests, we are able to build common solutions, regardless of our region, level of development or business model. It is our opportunity to work collectively for the benefit of all, to build on what has always made our postal community and the UPU so unique for more than the last 150 years: solidarity and universality.”

SALPOST is a member of the UPU. Managing Director, Brima Katta, has held bilateral engagements with various other member states with the view of fostering effective partnerships to improve and modernise postal services in Sierra Leone. He has also successfully negotiated with the UPU International Bureau for the restoration of full rights and privileges of Sierra Leone Postal Services within the UPU.

The MD again met with the Director of Postal Technology Centre, PTC, within the UPU Secretariat where they agreed to deploy a track and trace technology called Domestic Postal System, DPS, for domestic mail and parcels delivery services which would boost the ambitious plans to consolidate domestic logistics services for MDAs and e-commerce for private sector, SMEs and citizens.

The Congress ended with the signing of the Congress Act,witnessed by Sierra Leone’s Ambassador to the UAE, Rashid Sesay.
