The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), in collaboration with the Sierra Leone Police (SLP) and the Sierra Leone Association of Journalists (SLAJ), has concluded a two-day strategic media communication workshop aimed at equipping police media and information officers with skills to support the SLP’s transition from a force to a service.
The training, held from 29–30 September, brought together SLP media officers from across the country to enhance their capacity in developing and disseminating effective communication strategies.
Deputy Inspector General of Police, Mr. Sahr Yomba Senesi, urged participants to fully apply the lessons learned, stressing the central role of media officers in communicating the SLP’s transformation agenda.
Speaking on behalf of UNDP, Madam Bola Adebola reaffirmed the organisation’s commitment to supporting the transition process, while SLAJ President, Mr. Alhaji Manika Kamara, commended the initiative as a boost to the SLP’s communication capacity.
Director of Corporate Affairs, AIG Esther Mary Kaintor Dukuray, thanked participants for their engagement, reminding them that effective messaging is crucial in building public trust. She further cautioned media officers to remain consistent and united in projecting the image of a people-centred police service.
The workshop is part of ongoing efforts to strengthen police–community engagement and ensure the success of the SLP’s transformation.
