The Ministry of Technical and Higher Education (MTHE), in partnership with WanGov and Korlie Limited, has announced plans to introduce an online payment platform for students in higher educational institutions across Sierra Leone.
The initiative aims to improve transparency, efficiency, and accountability in fee payments, allowing students, parents, and sponsors to pay tuition and related charges online through services such as e-money, bank transfers, Volt, and Visa. The system will integrate with university databases and the national ID platform to ensure accurate and transparent financial records.
Minister of Technical and Higher Education, Dr. Haja Ramatulai Wurie, said the project aligns with President Bio’s “Big Five Game Changers,” particularly the pillar on digitisation and transparency. She emphasised that the platform will make every transaction traceable and restore trust between students and institutions.
The Head of ICT at MTHE, Mr. Edward Sannoh, underscored the critical role of the WanGov system in the education sector, particularly in higher education. He explained that the Ministry had been engaging stakeholders, conducting presentations, and assessing system gaps to ensure a holistic and effective implementation.
Tech Lead of Korlie Limited, Mr. Dugba Kenneh, demonstrated the system’s operation and called for standardised fee structures across universities to ensure smooth implementation. The platform will also grant ministry-level access for real-time monitoring and data analysis.
The official rollout is expected at the start of the next academic year after consultations with key stakeholders.
