Sierra Leone’s Chief Minister, Dr David Sengeh, has issued a strong warning against bar owners who are allowing children under the age of 16 to enter the premises during operatinghours.
He cautioned that bar owners who fail to comply will be committing a crime when children are in their bars, while reminding them of sections in the Liquor Licensing Act (1963 Amendment) that will be used to discipline defaulters.
The chief minister recommended that bar owners check the identification cards of attendees to ensure compliance, further advising that people start producing identification cards before being allowed to enter bars.
Dr. David Moinina Sengeh said, “If you are above 16 and you want to go to a bar, better get your national ID. Together we will deliver a safer environment for our children.”
