Dr. Julius Maada Bio, President of the Republic of Sierra Leone, has arrived in the Republic of Cyprus for an official visit at the invitation of His Excellency Nikos Christodoulides, President of the Republic of Cyprus.
President Bio and his delegation were warmly received upon arrival at Larnaca International Airport by senior Cypriot officials and Sierra Leone’s High Commissioner to the United Kingdom, accredited to the Republic of Cyprus. Following his arrival, the President was escorted to his hotel in Nicosia, the capital of Cyprus.

The visit comes at a significant time in the longstanding friendship between Sierra Leone and Cyprus, which has shared a strong bilateral relationship for more than two decades. Both countries have continued to enhance their cooperation at multilateral platforms such as the Commonwealth and the United Nations, working together on issues of mutual interest, peace, and sustainable development.
With the Republic of Cyprus set to assume the six-month rotating Presidency of the Council of the European Union on January 1, 2026, President Bio’s visit presents a valuable opportunity to reinforce the partnership between the two nations and reaffirm their mutual commitment to advancing the shared interests of the European Union and ECOWAS.
President Bio’s official engagements begin on Thursday, 13 November 2025, with a welcoming ceremony at the Presidential Palace in Nicosia, where he will be received with full honours by President Christodoulides. The two leaders are expected to hold bilateral talks aimed at deepening cooperation in key areas.
During his stay, President Bio will also visit the Municipality of Nicosia, the House of Representatives, and cultural landmarks such as the Byzantine Museum and the Cyprus Museum.
The visit underscores Sierra Leone’s commitment to strengthening diplomatic relations, expanding partnerships in Europe, and promoting shared values of democracy, peace, and inclusive development.
