The Sierra Leone Film Council (SLFC) has formally presented a concept note to the Director General of the Sierra Leone Broadcasting Corporation (SLBC), proposing a strategic partnership aimed at strengthening the visibility and growth of Sierra Leonean films on the national broadcaster.
The proposed initiative, titled, “Sollywood Hour,” seeks to provide increased airtime on SLBC for Sierra Leonean films, including full film screenings, official trailers for upcoming productions, behind-the-scenes content, and profiling of actors, directors, and crew members. The program is designed to revive public interest in local films, promote industry professionals, and build a stronger national film culture.
During the presentation, both the Director General and Deputy Director General of SLBC warmly embraced the initiative, acknowledging the important role of the national broadcaster in supporting local content and cultural development. They commended the Sierra Leone Film Council for the forward-looking proposal and assured the Council of their commitment to engage further and work towards getting the partnership operational in the shortest possible time.
The Sierra Leone Film Council views this collaboration as a significant step toward restoring the strong relationship that once existed between the national broadcaster and the local film industry, while creating sustainable platforms for Sierra Leonean filmmakers to reach wider audiences.
Further engagements and technical discussions are expected in the coming days as both institutions work toward finalising the partnership framework.
