Sierra Leone is reflecting on the life and legacy of former Member of Parliament Bamie Chidi, popularly known as Hon. Bami Chidee, whose passing has drawn tributes from across the political spectrum.
The Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP) confirmed the sad news, describing him as a committed public servant and an influential voice in national affairs. His death has left colleagues, supporters, and members of the wider political community in deep sorrow.
Throughout his time in Parliament, Hon. Chidee built a reputation as an outspoken and thoughtful contributor to legislative debates. He was widely respected for his grasp of political trends, particularly in key battleground districts such as Kambia and Kono, where his analyses were often cited in discussions about electoral strategy and voter behavior.
In October 2022, he stepped forward as a mayoral aspirant for Freetown under the SLPP banner, presenting what he described as a transformative vision for the capital. His campaign focused on land reclamation initiatives, expanding affordable housing opportunities for low- and middle-income earners, and driving infrastructure reforms aimed at repositioning Freetown as a modern and competitive city.
