The Executive Secretary of the Independent Commission for Peace and National Cohesion (ICPNC), Hawa Sally Samai, has called on politicians from the country’s two main political parties to demonstrate greater maturity in handling national issues.
Samai made the call while commenting on the recent disagreements within the Tripartite Committee, which was established to address concerns arising from the country’s electoral process and strengthen democratic governance in Sierra Leone.
According to her, political leaders from both sides of the divide must place the interest of the nation above partisan considerations and approach the committee’s work with a spirit of cooperation and responsibility.
She noted that the Tripartite Committee was formed to promote dialogue, build trust, and find solutions to political concerns through constructive engagement. However, she expressed concern that recent disagreements among political actors could undermine the purpose of the initiative.
Samai emphasized that political maturity is essential in sustaining peace and national cohesion, particularly at a time when the country is striving to strengthen its democratic institutions.
She further urged politicians to focus on meaningful dialogue and practical solutions that will contribute to national stability and development.
The ICPNC Executive Secretary reaffirmed the Commission’s commitment to promoting peace, dialogue, and cohesion among political stakeholders, adding that continued engagement and cooperation remain vital in addressing differences and safeguarding the country’s democratic progress.
