The Legal Aid Board (LAB) has secured the discharge of twelve accused persons including a mother of four from separate Court sittings held in Freetown, Moyamba, Kenema and Magburaka between Monday 16th February 2026 and Monday 23rd March 2026.
Five of the beneficiaries including Sinnah Koroma, a mother of four, were discharged in Freetown; while the remaining seven were freed in separate courts hearings around the country. Three of those freed upcountry included KadiatuKamara, who was standing trial on charges of manslaughter, were set free by the Moyamba High Court, while the other three were freed by Magburaka Magistrate Court and one by Kenema High Court.
Those released in Freetown included Mohamed H. Kanu; Foday Sheriff; Sinnah Koroma; Sulaiman Turay and Osman Kai.
Sinnah, a petty trader and a mother of four, was set free by Hon. Justice Manuela Harding for want of prosecution after having spent barely two years and six months behind bars.
Prior to her release, Sinnah was standing trial on charges of larceny. She was accused of stealing her aunt’s money whom she had been staying with following the collapsed of her marriage. Sinnah had repeatedly denied the allegation. She described her discharge as a testament to her stance that she knew nothing about the alleged theft.
In her usual post discharge briefing on those released in Freetown, the Executive Director of the Board, Mrs Fatmata Claire Carlton-Hanciles, admonished them to desist from violent conduct and thievery and to be content with what they have. She said violence in whatever form is bad and they must desist from it. She urged them to go back to their communities and be good contributors.
She assured the public of the Board’s continued commitment in ensuring that the poor and vulnerable are always represented in the courts.
The beneficiaries in Freetown were represented by Counsel Cyril Taylor-Younge and Counsel Egerton Saunders, while those in Moyamba, Kenema and Magburaka were represented by Counsel Alpha Vandy Kpeevai, Counsel Patrick Kamara and Counsel J.E Turay, respectively.
