In a major push to enhance enforcement of the country’s digital Resident and Work Permit system, the Government of Sierra Leone has deployed a new fleet of vehicles alongside 20 motorbikes for field officersnationwide.
The initiative, spearheaded by the Ministry of Employment, Labour and Social Security in collaboration with the Sierra Leone Immigration Department and Constrat Systems, aims to improve compliance, oversight, and service delivery across the country.
The rollout follows the Parliament-approved 15-year Build-Operate-Transfer (BOT) agreement signed in May 2025 with Constrat Systems. The agreement led to the development of Sierra Leone’s first integrated digital platform for resident and work permits, which became operational on January 1, 2026, and is now fully linked with the National Civil Registration Authority (NCRA).
Speaking at the official unveiling at the Youyi Building in Freetown, Minister of Employment, Labour and Social Security, Mohamed Rahman Swaray, said the deployment underscores the government’s commitment to modernising public service and creating a well-regulated labour market. “This initiative strengthens institutions, promotes transparency, and ensures that our systems support national development priorities,” he said.
Chief Immigration Officer Moses Tiffa Baioemphasized the role of digitalisation in improving migration management and enforcement. “By combining technology with enhanced mobility, we are boosting accountability, improving oversight, and reinforcing security across Sierra Leone,” he noted.
The government has called on employers and foreign nationals to adhere strictly to resident and work permit requirements and to utilise the official online platform at www.unifiedpermit.gov.sl for applications and renewals.
The deployment of vehicles and motorbikes is expected to improve field coordination, enable real-time monitoring of compliance, and strengthen the government’s capacity to manage labour and migration effectively.
