The Sierra Leone Ports and Harbours AuthoritySLPHA, through its concessionaire Freetown Terminal Limited, is set to transfer $8 million to the Government of Sierra Leone as equity shares for the year ending December 31, 2025.

The amount represents the government’s 20% dividend share, highlighting the port sector’s growing contribution to the national economy.

Under the leadership of Director General YankubaAskia Bio, the Authority has recorded steady financial progress—remitting $4M in 2023, $7M in 2024, and now $8M for 2025, reflecting improved revenue generation and operational efficiency.

Reforms such as digitalisation and modernization of port operations have significantly boosted performance, with SLPHA also paying over $11 million in concession fees within two years and earning recognition as the top-performing agency under the Ministry of Transport and Aviation in 2025.

The funds are expected to support key national priorities, including infrastructure development, maritime security, and public service delivery.

Meanwhile, ongoing investments continue, with a $25 million rehabilitation of berths 3, 4, 5, and 6 at the Freetown Port—fully funded by FTL as part of its concession agreement—further strengthening Sierra Leone’s maritime capacity and economic growth.
