Sierra Leone’s Ambassador to Türkiye, Francess Virginia Anderson, commemorated the country’s 65th Independence Anniversary with a reception highlighting national achievements and deepening relations between Sierra Leone and Türkiye.
Addressing dignitaries, including Türkiye’s Minister of Health, the Ambassador reflected on Sierra Leone’s journey since independence on April 27, 1961, emphasizing the nation’s commitment to unity, democracy, and self-determination.
She praised the growing partnership between the two countries, noting expanding cooperation in key sectors such as education, health, infrastructure, and trade. She also referenced productive engagements at the Antalya Diplomacy Forum and the Sierra Leone Investment and Trade Seminar held in Istanbul, which have helped boost economic collaboration.
Highlighting progress under President Julius Maada Bio, Ambassador Anderson pointed to the government’s “Big Five Game Changers” agenda, focused on agriculture, human capital development, youth empowerment, digital transformation, and infrastructure growth.
She further underscored Sierra Leone’s rising regional influence, particularly through President Bio’s leadership as Chairman of ECOWAS, promoting peace, stability, and democratic governance.
Türkiye’s Minister of Health, Kemal Memişoğlu, who attended as Guest of Honour, congratulated Sierra Leone on the milestone and commended the country’s efforts toward regional stability and cooperation. He also conveyed goodwill messages from President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan to the people and government of Sierra Leone.
