The inaugural Sierra Leone Diaspora Week London 2026 has been officially launched, evolving from a two-day conference into a landmark four-day international gathering aimed at strengthening ties between Sierra Leone and its global diaspora.
Scheduled to take place in London from June 18 to 21, 2026, the event is expected to bring together Sierra Leoneans in the diaspora, government officials, and private sector leaders in a unified platform focused on investment, development, and national engagement.
Organisers say the initiative represents a deliberate effort to foster national unity and collaboration, setting aside political and social differences in favour of a shared commitment to national progress.
Chair and Founder of the Sierra Leone Diaspora Investment Conference, Vickie Remoe, emphasised the importance of collective responsibility in national development, noting that sustainable progress must be driven by Sierra Leoneans themselves, both at home and abroad.
She underscored the need for unity and shared purpose among citizens regardless of political or social affiliation, highlighting the diaspora’s crucial role in shaping the country’s future.
Minister of Information and Civic Education, ChernorBah, also reaffirmed the government’s commitment to inclusive engagement, stating that all Sierra Leoneans are welcome to participate.
He stressed that constructive criticism and investment from the diaspora are both essential to national development, adding that Sierra Leone’s progress depends on collaboration beyond political differences.
The Diaspora Week is expected to feature discussions on investment opportunities, governance, innovation, and development partnerships, marking a significant step in strengthening engagement between Sierra Leone and its global community.
