Persons with Disability Engage Parliament

The one day dialogue forum attracted Members of Parliament, the disabled, the media and other stakeholders with the aim of charting the way forward on how to ameliorate the challenges with which disables are faced in the country.

Country Representative and Research Coordinator of Westminster Foundation for Democracy, Mr. Mohamed Jalloh, highlighted the importance of the project, whilst Santigie Kargbo, President of Sierra Leone Union on Disability Issues, presented the strategic plan for the disabled community in the country.

The Chairman of the Human Rights Committee in Parliament, Hon. Rtd. Brig. Komba E.S. Boyah welcomed the initiative and acknowledged the role of Parliament in supporting disability issues in the country. Hon. Hassan Sesay, Chairman, Social Services Committee, appreciated the work of SLUDI in consulting with Parliament on their activities and promised to work with them in order to achieve their set objectives.

MPs who spoke on the disability agenda promised to address some of the challenges highlighted, but cautioned the disabled to be respecters of the law.

The meeting was organized by Westminster Foundation for Democracy at the Conference Hall of the Administrative Building in Parliament.
