The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has confirmed that it will soon start nationwide public education and outreach engagements with Paramount Chiefs and Chiefdom Authorities, to reinforce the need for ethical leadership, accountability, and transparency in chiefdom administration. The confirmation was made on Thursday by the Commission’s Director of Public Education and Outreach, Abubakarr Turay.
Turay said the first leg of the engagement will start on February 3, 2026 in the Eastern Regional districts of Kailahun, Kenema, and Kono respectively, and it will cover all the paramount chiefs in the respective districts. The ACC Team, he said, will be in Kailahunon Tuesday, Kenema on Wednesday, and Kono on Friday.
The theme of the engagement, which will be led by the ACC Commissioner Francis Ben Kaifala, is ‘Strengthening Integrity in the Traditional Governance Architecture’.
He said the engagement emanated from a request made last year by paramount chiefs in which they called on the ACC to engage them on anti-corruption issues, especially those related to gifts and their roles in the anti-corruption campaign.
Turay said the engagements will also seek to promote integrity and transparency in traditional leadership, enlist traditional leaders in the national fight against corruption, in a bid to prevent corruption in customary and traditional administration.
The ACC Public Education and Outreach Director said the objective of the engagements is to further strengthen compliance with the Anti-Corruption Act and encourage transparency, fairness, and justice in decision-making and dispute and conflict resolutions.This, he said, will help to position Paramount Chiefs as national anti-corruption champions.
Turay said letters of invitation had already been sent to all paramount chiefs and other local authorities in the Eastern Region. He said the Commission will replicate similar engagements in the other regions of the country.
