Sierra Leone’s Chief Minister, Dr David Moinina Sengeh, has informed International Moral Guarantors that payments under the National Unity Agreement will no longer be made, marking a significant shift in government policy.
The Chief Minister clarified that previous disbursements, including backlog payments and financial requests from Parliament and local councils, were made as part of concessions tied to the agreement. However, he stressed that future payments will be strictly based on eligibility and established procedures.
He emphasised that only individuals and institutions legally entitled to benefits will receive them going forward, signalling a renewed focus on fiscal discipline and accountability.
The development points to a broader government effort to recalibrate the implementation of the Unity Agreement, ensuring sustainability while reinforcing adherence to regulatory frameworks.
