In a moment marked by intellectual pride and diplomatic significance, Dr. Abdul B. Kamara, Director General of the African Development Bank (AfDB) Country Office in the Federal Republic of Nigeria, on Saturday, 12th September 2025, officially presented copies of his groundbreaking book “The Unknown Destination” to Sierra Leone’s Minister of Employment, Labour and Social Security, Mohamed Rahman Swaray, and Ambassador Ernest Ndomahina, Commissioner of the National Commission for Social Action.
The historic handover took place at the iconic AfDB headquarters in Abuja, the first of its kind on African soil signaling a new era of regional cooperation, intellectual empowerment, and development dialogue.
Dr. Kamara, a proud Sierra Leonean and one of Africa’s foremost development economists, has spent decades shaping the continent’s economic transformation through policy, research, and finance. A holder of a Ph.D. in Agricultural Economics and Rural Development from the University of Göttingen in Germany, his academic credentials also include executive education from the London School of Economics and Harvard University’s Kennedy School.
In “The Unknown Destination”, Dr. Kamara offers a profound and deeply analytical exploration of the systemic challenges confronting university education in Africa, particularly in the late 20th and early 21st centuries. The book serves as a timely reflection on the continent’s struggle for educational equity, relevance, and reform in a rapidly evolving global knowledge economy.
Minister Swaray and Commissioner Ndomahina both praised Dr. Kamara for his intellectual contribution and celebrated his achievement in rising to one of the most esteemed positions within the AfDB. They expressed their admiration not only for his personal accomplishments but for the vision of excellence and leadership he continues to embody for Sierra Leone and the African continent at large.
