Vice President Dr. Mohamed Juldeh Jalloh has delivered a compelling statement on Day 2 of the Climate Resilience & Energy Transition Dialogue, CRET 25, expressing profound optimism at the country’s journey toward energy transformation and praising concerted efforts at making this transformation achievable.

“Let me reiterate, distinguished ladies and gentlemen, that our country’s energy transformation journey started in 2018.

“When we came to power in 2018, our energy access was at 16%.Today, we stand at 36%, which is almost halfway the route to Mission 300,” he said, adding that energy is the inevitable gateway to the economic transformation Sierra Leone was poised to embark on.

He noted that energy will catalyze production, drive value addition and create jobs, noting that he recognizes how instrumental the transformation in the energy sector was in helping the country meet its development objectives.

Vice President Juldeh Jalloh touched on interrelated stories of critical importance, including but not limited to the foundations that the government has laid in the areas of education and health to address issues of vulnerability and fragility and the need to use energy to sustain these gains, and the lessons that must be learnt from the process of statelessness that has characterized most of Africa’s ability to solve its energy needs.

“All recommendations from this year’s dialogue will be presented to His Excellency the President and implemented to the letter,” he concluded while praising the efforts of Dr. Kandeh Yumkella and his team.

Energy Sector Lead, Dr. Kandeh Yumkella, thanked His Excellency President Julius Maada Bio and the Vice President for the support they have given to the energy sector, stressing that such support was necessary to sustain the transformation momentum.

With the energy sector and the Feed Salone agenda being inextricably linked, reforms continue in the sector.
