Africell Sierra Leone, Afrimoney and Street Child Sierra Leone officially launched the 11th Edition of the 2024 Street Child Marathon.

During the unveiling ceremony, Country Director for Street Child Sierra Leone, Kelfa Kargbo, highlighted Africell Sierra Leone’s consistent support as the main sponsor since the inception of the event in 2012. He emphasized the crucial role of Africell in making the Street Child Marathon a successful annual event.

He revealed that the marathon is scheduled to take place on May 5, 2024, in Makeni City, Northern Province of Sierra Leone, adding that the marathon registration forms are now available at all Street Child offices across various locations, including Bo, Kenema, Makeni, and Kabala and that registration can be completed by making payments via Afrimoney, with the deadline set for May 4, 2024.

Kelfa Kargbo elaborated on Street Child Sierra Leone’s evolution from a local NGO established in 2008 to its current presence in 21 countries. He outlined the organization’s focus on protecting children, improving family livelihoods and facilitating access to education for vulnerable children.

Expressing gratitude, Africell’s Chief Corporate Officer, Joe Abass Bangura, reiterated the company’s commitment to supporting the Street Child Marathon as part of their efforts to create a safe environment for street children in Sierra Leone.

Ibrahim M. Kargbo, representing the Sierra Leone Athletics Association (SLAA), commended the Street Child Marathon for its role in talent identification and development. He cited examples of athletes discovered through the marathon who went on to represent Sierra Leone internationally.

John Konteh, Director of Communications for Afrimoney, extended congratulations to Street Child for organizing the event. He announced the merchant payment platform as the designated method for participants to obtain sign-up forms for 55 Leones, accessible by dialing *161# and using the merchant code 64732.
