Africell has officially inaugurated a Telemarketing Centre at the Milton Margai School for the Blind on Wilkinson Road in Freetown, marking a significant milestone in promoting skills development, employment and digital inclusion for persons with disabilities in Sierra Leone.
The inauguration ceremony brought together senior executives of the telecommunications company, including Mr Ziad Dalloul, Chief Executive Officer, President and Founder of Africell; Mr Shadi Gerjawi, Managing Director of Africell Sierra Leone; and MrMartison Obeng-Agyei of Afrimoney Sierra Leone, alongside government officials, partners and other distinguished guests.
Speaking at the event, Mr Martison Obeng-Agyei called on individuals and institutions to support persons with disabilities by creating opportunities that enable them to thrive.
“Let us all come together to improve the lives of Persons With Disabilities as Africell has done,” he said.
He further emphasised that persons with disabilities possess the ability to contribute meaningfully to society when given equal opportunities.
“Let’s give full opportunity to Persons With Disabilities. They can as well deliver as those who are able,” he added.
The Principal of the Milton Margai School for the Blind, Salieu Turay, expressed appreciation to Africell for establishing the centre, revealing that the initiative has already created employment for 24 persons with disabilities.
He described the project as a life-changing investment that will equip visually impaired students and graduates with vocational and technical skills while expanding their employment prospects.
“Anybody can become disabled,” Turay said, urging Sierra Leoneans to embrace persons with disabilities with empathy, dignity and respect.
He called for an end to discrimination against persons with disabilities and stressed that they should be afforded equal opportunities to participate fully in national development.
According to Turay, the Telemarketing Centre demonstrates that persons with disabilities can excel and make meaningful contributions to society when provided with the necessary training and support.
The newly established facility is expected to provide vocational and technical training while creating sustainable employment opportunities for visually impaired persons, enabling them to develop practical skills and achieve greater economic independence.
The initiative reflects Africell’s commitment to corporate social responsibility and represents a significant step towards advancing inclusion, empowerment and digital skills development for persons with visual impairments in Sierra Leone.
