The Electoral Commission for Sierra Leone (ECSL) has commenced a series of high-level engagements with political parties, government institutions, and international partners as part of its early preparations for the 2028 General Elections.
The initiative is aimed at strengthening electoral integrity, enhancing transparency, and building trust among key stakeholders involved in the electoral process.
Speaking at the launch, the Chief Electoral Commissioner, Edmond Sylvester Alpha said the engagements are designed to lay a solid foundation for the conduct of credible, inclusive, and peaceful elections. He noted that early dialogue with stakeholders is critical to addressing potential challenges and ensuring broad-based participation in the electoral process.
According to the Commission, the discussions will also provide a platform for stakeholders to raise concerns, seek clarification on electoral procedures, and receive updates on the Commission’s level of preparedness. The engagements are expected to guide reforms and improvements in line with international best practices.
The ECSL emphasised that the move reflects its commitment to professionalism, collaboration, and proactive planning as it works toward delivering a transparent and trusted electoral process in 2028.
Observers say the early start to consultations signals a renewed focus on inclusive governance and could help strengthen public confidence in Sierra Leone’s democratic institutions ahead of the next electoral cycle.
