The News and Current Affairs Department of the Africa Young Voices (AYV) Media Empire hosted the President and CEO, Ambassador Anthony Navo Jr. in the newsroom with the supervisors, senior producers, reporters and interns in attendance.

The CEO thanked the leadership and staff for their commitment to work and the growth of the institution, while encouraging them to put more effort into their work to continue to lead the media landscape in the country, especially in using digital technology and capacity building, which he is always willing and ready to provide.

The interactive meeting provided the opportunity for some staff to not only meet and thanked the CEO for his support but also to share their concerns and make recommendations on how to improve the News and Current Affairs Department.

Director of News and Current Affairs, Amadu Lamrana Bah, thanked the CEO and senior management for their support to the department and assured them that they will continue to work together as a team and implement the recommendations which will greatly help in improving their work.

Recently, Senior Reporters in the Newsroom completed an intense in-house orientation for junior reporters on Broadcast Script Writing and related topics.

The Orientation according to the Deputy Director of News and Current Affairs, Elizabeth Momoh, is to capacitate the junior reporters and further refresh the seniors on how to write appropriate news scripts for broadcast.

Momoh said: “We noticed some challenges in news scripts written, especially from junior reporters. With senior reporters in-house, who have gone through local and international media trainings, we thought it prudent for them to serve as trainers for their juniors.

“So, we organise the one-day orientation to get the senior reporters serving as trainers on selected important topics instead of bringing in external facilitators.”

The News and Current Affairs/Newsroom, according to the Chief Executive Officer of the AYV, Ambassador Anthony Navo Jr. is the best department at AYV.

For years now, the Department has consecutively won the Company’s end of year staff awards as Best Department.
