The Principal of the Milton Margai School for the Blind, Salieu Turay, has called on Sierra Leoneans to embrace persons with disabilities with empathy and inclusion, reminding the public that disability can affect anyone at any stage of life.
Speaking during the opening of the Africell Telemarketing Centre at the Milton Margai School for the Blind on Wilkinson Road in Freetown, Turay stressed the need to eliminate discrimination against persons with disabilities.
“Anybody can become disabled,” he said, urging society to treat persons living with disabilities with dignity, respect and equal opportunities.
Turay commended Africell for establishing the Telemarketing Centre, describing the initiative as a significant investment in the future of visually impaired students. He noted that the facility will provide vocational and technical training, equipping beneficiaries with practical skills to enhance their employability and economic independence.
He said such interventions demonstrate that persons with disabilities can make meaningful contributions to national development when given the right support and opportunities.
The event was attended by Africell President, CEO and Founder, Mr. Ziad Dalloul, Managing Director of Africell Sierra Leone, Mr. Shadi Gerjawi, AfrimoneySierra Leone’s Martison Obeng-Agyei, government officials, development partners and other invited guests.
The Telemarketing Centre forms part of Africell’sbroader corporate social responsibility efforts aimed at promoting digital inclusion, skills development and economic empowerment for vulnerable groups across Sierra Leone.
