Hon. Aminata Sesay, a Member of Parliament representing the All People’s Congress (APC) in Port Loko, has assured the Sierra Leone Police that the party’s planned protest will be conducted peacefully and without casualties.
Speaking in an exclusive interview with AYV Media, Hon. Sesay disclosed that the party has formally applied for permission to stage the demonstration and is currently awaiting official clearance from the police.
“We have applied, and we are expecting clearance from the police. We will present the President with the number of people who oppose Edmond Alpha’s appointment,” she said.
She emphasised that public safety remains a top priority for the APC, reiterating the party’s commitment to a non-violent demonstration. “As APC, the safety of our people comes first; we will hold the peaceful protest without any casualties. Let them give us the clearance to hold our peaceful protest,” she added.
Hon. Sesay further noted that many of her constituents have raised concerns about electoral integrity, urging that issues surrounding the 2023 elections should not be repeated in the lead-up to the 2028 polls.
The planned protest is part of growing political debate over the appointment of the Chief Electoral Commissioner, with opposition voices calling for greater transparency and public confidence in the country’s electoral processes.
Authorities are yet to respond to the APC’s request as discussions continue around the proposed demonstration and its implications for public order.
