The bye-election was relevance that it drew the attention of senior members of both APC and SLPP.  In order to demonstrate the relevance of the election both parties senior official stormed constituency 006, in order to overwhelmingly supports their respective contestants.  

Among the  APC delegation were, the Vice President,  Victor Bockarie Foh, the Northern Regional party  Chairman , Hon. Buya Kamara, the Chairman of the  APC Tonkolili , Hon. Dr Minkailu Bah, Minister of State Office of the Vice President, Hon. Mohamed Alie Bah, Resident Minister North, Hon. Alie Kamara, the Chairman of the APC in the Western Area, Capt.  Momodu Allieu Pat-Sowe visited the constituency.

At the same time, the SLPP’s Deputy Chairman and Leader, Dr. Prince Harding, presidential aspirants Maada Bio, Dr Alie Kabba, Ambassador Umaru Bond Wurie, Alpha Timbo and paramount stalwart in SLPP’s such as Ambassador Alie Badara Kamara and Dr. Abass Bundu, went to the constituency to campaign for their candidate.

The election outcome demonstrated that ruling APC maintained support its stronghold, as the traditional strongholds rivalry still subsisting in both the country’s major political parties. The bye-election result vividly revealed the situation of both parties current status, in their strongholds, as the country is fast approaching, presidential, legislative and local council elections.   

The bye-election in constituency 066, comprises the three important chiefdoms of Kalasongoia, Kafe Simiria and Sambaia, which happened to be the citadel of the ruling APC. Any defeat faced the APC in their stronghold, will be a revelation that the SLPP were paving their way to state house.

SLPP’s displayed their new-found peace, unity and tranquility which gladdening the hearts of fanatics that the going will be good in 2018, though a win in the  APC’s stronghold would have accelerate the process of SLPP’s winning the statehouse in the forthcoming elections.

Among the casted votes, the APC emerged victorious.

Rosemarie Bangura (APC):   7, 393

Alhaji Musa Bomba Foray Jalloh (SLPP):   4, 678

Void votes – 741 (6%)

There are few more precincts yet to be counted and announced, but those results were not expected to affect the final ongoing tally process.

The figures revealed that APC still retained its strongholds. However, the SLPP secured 4, 678 among the casted votes, meaning the SLPP are progressively accelerating into the APC stronghold.

The margin is not as big as the APC’s supporters would have loved, given the strategic importance of Tonkolili to the reigning party.
