The reason for his resignation is because “the result of the review of the All People’s Congress CRC process turned out to be a vehicle for retention of the most undemocratic and repugnant selection clause in disguise of consolation clause.”

The press conference was held under the auspices of the National Reformation Movement and held at its Pademba Road office in Freetown. It was well-attended by members of the APC and other interested parties.

Mohamed Sheridan Kamara who is the leader of the National Reformation Movement within the APC, informed journalists that the said National Advisory Committee had empaneled a committee to review the party’s 1995 constitution, of which he was a part.

He added that the process was supposed to be democratic and participatory, “but in truth, it turned out to be a vehicle for the retention of the most undemocratic and repugnant selection clause in the disguise of consultation clause,” he lamented.

He noted that it was unfortunate that the product of the review and the ultimate answer it arrived at was ‘selection;’ the very process that he said “has been abused for more than a decade by the current APC leadership.”

He revealed that the selection clause is an attempt to continue with the politics of deceit and manipulation in the All People’s Congress party internal politics. He however reassured the general public of his commitment to continue supporting the APC.

He added that the purpose of the All People’s Congress National Reformation Movement is to seek the welfare of the grassroots. He however implored his colleagues still on the CRC to carry on with the good job and that his resignation does not mean that he is throwing spanners into the ongoing work of the CRC. “I wholeheartedly respect your views and stance on the many issues we debated before getting to this point. Our disagreements have not been on personal issues but on ideological beliefs,” Mohamed Sheridan Kamara read from his resignation letter.
