The National Publicity Secretary of the All People’s Congress (APC), Sidi Yayah Tunis, has described the party’s just-concluded lower-level elections as a strong demonstration of its commitment to internal democracy.

Speaking in reaction to the nationwide exercise, Tunis said the elections reflected significant growth in the party’s democratic culture, citing impressive voter turnout across various districts and wards.

According to him, the lower-level polls remain the only internal election within the APC in which the entire eligible membership participates directly. He explained that any member who has spent at least one year in the party and is fully paid up is entitled to vote, making the process inclusive and participatory.

“We witnessed massive turnouts at every level throughout the country,” Tunis stated, adding that it was encouraging to see party members queuing in large numbers to exercise what he described as their internal democratic right.

The APC recently conducted elections to fill thousands of grassroots positions nationwide, an exercise party officials say is aimed at strengthening structures and reinforcing democratic principles from the bottom up.

Tunis emphasised that the level of engagement seen during the elections signals renewed enthusiasm within the party as it continues efforts to consolidate unity and grassroots participation ahead of future political contests.
