The National Publicity Secretary of the Sierra Leone People’s Party, Moses Sellu Mambu, has cautioned that the All People’s Congress risks “political suicide” if it fails to pursue legal action over the ongoing controversy involving Edmond Alpha.
Speaking in an interview with AYV, Mambu questioned the opposition party’s reluctance to take the matter to court, stressing that the judiciary remains the only legitimate avenue for resolving such disputes. He maintained that the Supreme Court of Sierra Leone is the only body constitutionally empowered to remove the Chief Electoral Commissioner from office.
According to Mambu, even Julius Maada Bio does not have the authority to dismiss Edmond Alpha unless there is a proven breach of the constitutional provisions governing the office.
On governance matters, the SLPP spokesman also highlighted what he described as progress in the country’s agricultural sector, noting that Sierra Leone is steadily reducing food insecurity and has, for the first time, achieved self-sufficiency in egg production, with surplus now being exported.
He further stated that the SLPP-led government remains committed to national cohesion, emphasising that neither the Tripartite Recommendations nor the Agreement of National Unity has been altered. “The government has been implementing both documents to the letter,” he said.
Mambu also drew a distinction between the Government of Sierra Leone and the SLPP as a political party, noting that the administration remains focused on governance priorities, including efforts to rebrand the country on the global stage.
The remarks come amid ongoing political debate surrounding the status of the electoral leadership and the broader implications for governance and democratic processes in Sierra Leone.
