Senior leaders of the main opposition All People’s Congress (APC) were present in Parliament on Monday to witness deliberations on the Constitutional Amendment Bill, demonstrating the party’s support and solidarity with its Members of Parliament during the landmark debate.
The presence of the party’s leadership underscored the significance the APC attaches to the proposed constitutional reforms, which are expected to shape Sierra Leone’s electoral and governance framework.
According to the party, its leaders attended the parliamentary sitting to support and stand in solidarity with APC Members of Parliament as they represent the interests of the people of Sierra Leone during the debate.
The APC has been actively involved in the constitutional amendment process since its inception. A representative of the party participated in a preliminary meeting held on January 27, 2026, where the party maintained that its support for the proposed amendments would depend on the process being conducted in accordance with constitutional and legal procedures.
The Constitutional Amendment Bill subsequently underwent its First Reading in Parliament on January 27, 2026, marking the formal commencement of the legislative process.
The proposed amendments form part of Sierra Leone’s broader constitutional review process, which seeks to reform key provisions relating to governance, elections and democratic institutions.
As Parliament continues its debate, attention remains focused on whether the proposed amendments will secure the constitutionally required support for passage.
