Alhaji Minkailu Mansaray, a senior politician of the All People’s Congress (APC), has reportedly passed away earlier today in Senegal.

He was a long-serving figure in Sierra Leonean politics, having held several senior government and party positions over the years, including ministerial roles and parliamentary responsibilities.

Within the APC, he was widely regarded as an influential member of the party’s national leadership and decision-making structure. Details surrounding the circumstances of his reported passing are still emerging, and the APC is yet to issue an official statement.

Born in the Tonkolili District in northern Sierra Leone and later raised in Freetown, Mansaray was of Temneheritage and a practising Muslim. He studied at the University of Sierra Leone, Fourah Bay College, where he obtained his higher education.

Before entering full-time politics, he worked in the insurance sector as an executive at the Sierra Leone National Insurance Company. His experience in business and insurance later influenced his approach to governance and public administration.

Mansaray began his political career within the APC, where he became active in party structures, including the youth wing. He later served as a Member of Parliament from 2002 to 2007.

Following the APC’s return to power in 2007, he was appointed to senior government positions, including Minister of Labour and Industrial Relations (2007–2010), and Minister of Mines and Mineral Resources (from 2010 onwards, according to various reports). In these roles, he was involved in labour policy, employment reforms, and the management of Sierra Leone’s mining and natural resources sector.

Within the APC, Mansaray rose to become one of the party’s most influential figures, serving in roles including National Chairman, Deputy National Leader, and member of the National Advisory Council. He was widely regarded as part of the party’s core leadership responsible for strategy, organisation, and internal coordination.

He also played a key role in APC national politics, contributing to election strategy, party unity efforts, and internal reconciliation processes. He was known for advocating organisational discipline and cohesion within the party.

Mansaray was often described as a seasoned political operator with strong links across party structures, government institutions, and grassroots networks. His leadership was associated with efforts to stabilise and strengthen the APC during periods of political transition.
