Properties worth millions of leones and fiscal cash had been carted away during the process of robbery.

Some victims had sustained injuries and others being raped; and a recent alleged rape case was reported at the Panlap Police Division, an outskirts in Makeni Municipality.

According to the Local Unit Commander of the division, five arrests had been made including the alleged rapists. With evidence gathered, the matters are about to be charged to court, Chief Superintendent Gibril M. Turay informed this medium.

In another engagement with the crime officer of the Makeni Police Division-Detective Inspector Margaret Marah stated that the spate of arm robbery increased during the festive season of last December, 2016 and extended on to February this year. But with stringent measures added with the coordination with communities, the volume of the menace had subsided.

She further stated that even though the Police is making some tremendous strides and gains, they are yet still faced with numerous challenges amongst which are logistical problems as in the case of insufficient fuel supply, compromise of cases by some complainants at the peak of investigation and among others.

The ongoing robbery incidents seem to counter the statement made by Detective Inspector Marah who opined that arm robbery is on the decline in Makeni. Many residents in the municipality have suggested that government should invoke Military Aid to Civil Power (MAC-P) if at all this unwarranted situation could be put to rest.

Others have mixed feelings for the Police by stating that some of the officers connived with arm robbers which have made the effort of the police in cubing out arm robbery futile.
