The first cohort of the world-renowned Budapest-Bamako Rally has successfully concluded its Sierra Leonean leg, marking a significant win for the nation’s tourism and local economy.
Over 700 participants and a fleet of more than 300 vehicles, including motorbikes, crossed the finish line, culminating in a vibrant closing ceremony at the Gigibonta car park.
The event was characterised by a flawless safety record, with organisers reporting no casualties or incidents of drowning despite the large crowds at Bureh Beach.
Beyond the adventure, the rally has proven to be a major commercial success. Local car dealers reported high sales volumes as many participants opted to sell their rugged vehicles locally upon arrival.
The economic ripple effect extended to the hospitality and craft sectors. Hotels reported peak occupancy rates, while local artisans saw a surge in handicraft sales. Government officials are currently measuring the total impact of landing visa fees collected at border crossing points, which signals a healthy revenue stream for the state.
